Due to some surprise extra days off, we had a random 4 day weekend in the middle of April, coinciding nicely with some of the best weather the spring has shown us thus far.
Friday the 17th was Bjørn’s 33rd birthday — after breakfast in bed, he made an appearance as the lone father at our ECFE group (Early Childhood Family Education), after which we went out for lunch. It was FINALLY warm enough to sit outside — some of us even turned a bit pink (that’d be me). (Along those same lines, I really love how Minnesotans are not shy about baring their glaring white winter legs once the sun comes out. Or maybe I’m the only one with glaring white legs…)

ANYWAY, Karel got to play in the grass, we got to stroll in the sun, and it was altogether not a bad way to start another year. I trust the boys had fun the next two days, as I was working at night and sleeping during the day…Sometimes I think it’s better not to know all the things they’re up to on these ‘Mama’s-working-aka-the-cat’s-away’ weekends. Sunday night we had baby-free dinner out with the Fetters, and I enjoyed my first whiskey in what felt like years. Ahhh.

So we pretty much had no plans for Monday, so we at the last minute decided to drive west out of the city to Norcross, MN, population 59, to visit my maternal grandparents for the day. The drive is a bit long, but really quite lovely scenery. Fertile farmland without the pancake flatness you see further south. Karel took to his greatgrandparents right away, snuggling in on both of them while he got used to the new surroundings. Grandma, of course, whipped up hearty lunch out of nothing, and sent us home with a bag full of cookies and a loaf of bread. We all decided that next time we’d lessen the chatting and set right in a game of Sequence. Don’t place your bets on the Lyngstads to win that one.

We sure enjoy these pictures and hope you can come again real soon. We love you.
