Last weekend, for the first time since Karel was born, Bjørn and I went away for a weekend on our own. With the way the flights worked out, our plan was to spend three days and nights in Riga, Latvia. Riga has evidently been the new star of European travel destinations — beautiful old town, low prices (at least by Norwegian standards!), and supposedly great nightlife. We only anticipated experiencing two of those three, but hey, you never know. What happens in Riga stays in Riga, right?

Lest you fear Karel is only building these days, rest assured that he spends significant time in the kitchen helping his mother and thus becoming a well-rounded young man. Turns out now I have to watch him much more closely as he’s just as much into tasting as stirring.

More boxes, please.

It’s May 3, and it’s snowing. Not really accumulating, but snowing nonetheless. People here often ask me if I am used to this type of weather, possibly because I am still wearing 3 layers of clothes. My standard response has become, ”Yes, but that doesn’t mean I like it.”
